Description: Northwest UAV builds small, specialized engines for specific unmanned systems applications. This internship position is responsible for training and job-shadowing within various sub-departments at NWUAV. It requires learning and understanding tasks within each area including all components of Engineering projects, ongoing research, data sourcing and analysis and how the positions and sub-departments interact with other parts of the business. The position will be responsible for at least one sizeable research project. In addition, the Engineering intern is expected to contribute to other projects. Some projects will be one-time activities and other projects will be ongoing with varying degrees of frequency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Train and job shadow within the Engineering department and related departments to gain understanding of NWUAV workflows and business needs in the company.
  • Problem definition, research, data collection, analysis to determine best processes and methods for problem-solving.
  • Leadership/ownership of assigned project(s) within the Engineering department.
  • Create, input, format and update a variety of projects and reports.
  • Regular and clear communication with manager and internal and external team members on status of assigned project(s).
  • Distribute timely and accurate work.
  • Maintain files and generate status information.
  • Show professionalism in all skills.
  • Follows directives as instructed to accomplish timely project completion.
  • Assesses and monitors project to ensure timelines and quality.
  • Relays critical challenges and progress to the Project Manager daily.
Skills, Experience, and Aptitude:
  • Must be a full-time student in good standing actively pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Project are required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional time management and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via verbal, written and interpersonally.
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with the help of another person if necessary.
  • Ability to work well independently and following strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout the day alternating sitting and standing as necessary.
  • Perform repetitive movement such as pushing, pulling, bending, some twisting and stooping.
  • Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be positive, polite, and cooperative with co-workers, managers, customers and vendors.
