Description: Northwest UAV builds small, specialized engines for specific unmanned systems applications. The Machinist I will assist the Machine Shop Manager with the successful operation of the shop, ensuring all work directives are followed to the specifications of customer and shop requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal supervision, perform varied duties and assignments as it relates to the machine shop for NWUAV.
  • Set up, adjust and operate machining equipment including mills and lathes.
  • Perform routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) on equipment to maintain good operation.
  • Review traveler and part specific instructions.
  • Perform in-process inspections using hand help inspection tools.
  • Complete required part specific documentations.
  • Ability to work in fast paced, multitasking environment.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices.
  • Adhere to AS9100 standards and regulations as administered by Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
  • Maintain clean work environment.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, professionally and on schedule.
  • Complete all necessary documentation related to the current work order.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Machine Shop Manager or Owner.

Skills, Experience, and Aptitude:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ CNC Mill operation experience required.
  • MasterCam experience and a strong mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Expertise in reading blueprints, knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances, and proficiency in basic math and trigonometry are required.
  • Experience working on vertical and horizontal mills (3-5 axis).
  • Understands and utilizes all written materials available for the shop projects.
  • Skilled with hand and inspection tools.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with the help of another person if necessary.
  • Ability to work well independently and following strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout the day alternating sitting and standing as necessary.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and written.
  • Must be able to visually inspect assemblies to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform repetitive movement such as pushing, pulling, bending, some twisting and stooping.
  • Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be positive, polite, and cooperative with co-workers, managers, customers and vendors.
