Description: Northwest UAV builds small, specialized engines for specific unmanned systems applications. The CMM Programmer is an integral part of Quality Control. The Programmer is primarily responsible for programming and operating a Zeiss CMM using Calypso software, inspecting products, creating complex setups, performing mathematical computations, and interpreting drawings to ensure the product meets requirements. The CMM Programmer facilitates product flow through CMM inspection and ensures all quality issues are brought to the Quality Control Supervisor's attention. The Programmer must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and complete all required inspections in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work from engineering drawing and CAD models to develop inspection programs using Calypso software.
  • Work from written instructions, engineering drawings and specifications to select, plan, set up and use standard measuring equipment to inspect hardware for conformity with specifications.
  • Read and interpret drawings and blueprints with GD&T dimensioning and specifications.
  • Perform first piece inspections and first article inspections.
  • Devise and implement inspection plans for Engineering and Production items.
  • Perform inspections as needed using calibrated hand tools.
  • Monitor flow of products through the CMM. Communicate effectively to provide information and status updates as required.
  • Assist in corrective action investigations.
  • Train fellow team members on CMM operation.
  • Maintains rigorous standards of inspecting and testing to ensure that NWUAV products are consistently of the highest quality possible.
  • Generates records related to nonconformances, interacts with suppliers to communicate quality issues/nonconformances and documentation requests. Tracks progress to ensure completion.
  • Makes proactive recommendations and offering/presenting solutions to improve quality and work efficiency. Identifies gaps or weaknesses in the QMS and identify and implement robust improvement actions.
  • Assists in Root Cause Analysis efforts and implementation of identified Corrective Actions.
  • Assists with creation, submission and reporting of Supplier Requests for Engineering Assistance (SREA).
  • Participates in New Project Introductions as an advocate and enforcer of quality initiatives.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Quality Control Supervisor or Director of Quality Assurance.

Skills, Experience, and Aptitude:

  • Five (5) years of CMM Programming experience required or combination of experience and education.
  • Required experience working to AS9100 standards.
  • ASQ-CQE certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of practical measuring techniques, including manual surface plate layout, CMM programming and operation experience.
  • Quality tools knowledge — ISO-9001/AS9100, FMEA, TQM, Control Plans, Process Flow, SPC, etc.
  • Proficiency reading engineering documents, including drawings.
  • Proficiency with GD&T
  • Experience with the following:
      First article and production inspection
      Spatial intelligence (3D visualization)
      Custom inspection/reporting
      Articulating probe systems
      DCC and manual CMM operation
      Part setup and documentation using modular fixturing systems.
  • Keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of NWUAV’s manufacturing or service processes.
  • Must have ability to serve as assistant to managers, analyze data, set up key operations, train, lead, and make recommendations for new procedures.
  • Strong computer skills, including ERP, Quality Management Software, Microsoft Office, Intranet/Internet and the desire to employ new computer technology as it evolves.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision making and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Proficient in the ability to understand and utilize all written materials available in reference to the project at hand and be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with the help of another person if necessary.
  • Ability to work well independently and following strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout the day alternating sitting and standing as necessary.
  • Must be able to visually inspect assemblies to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform repetitive movement such as pushing, pulling, bending, some twisting and stooping.
  • Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be positive, polite, and cooperative with co-workers, managers, customers and vendors.
